eBike Slippery Slope

11 months ago I built my first eBike using an old bike that I had purchased several years ago.  During those 11 months, I managed to retire from my job, convert 2 other bikes and then upgrade my first bike with the experience gained from the other two.

January 2023 - First pass

November 2023 - Second pass

I purchased a $20 bike for my son and decided to do a budget ebike conversion using reclaimed lithium ion batteries from https://batteryhookup.com/

The bike was well used so a few parts had to be replaced since they were already worn out

2 more bikes undergoing conversion therapy

The 2nd bike was a bike my wife won over a decade ago and was also planned as a budget build since she hardly ever rides it.

April 2025 - 2 bikes are undergoing more updates after 2 failed motors when my son tried to use 1 to throttle up a big hill and when that motor died, I let him use my bike which he killed shortly after on the same hill.  While our 2 bikes were down and waiting for parts I gave him my wife's bike to take to class with the strict rule to pedal up the hills.

I purchased 2 1500w direct drive hub motors and and finished installing and configuring them and they are so powerful and fast that ghost pedaling is the only way to ride unless I turn-off the assist. They are still not wheelie machines but too fast to be safe so the max speed is limited to 24mph/40kph.
